Construction Innovations Led by the Modular Home Industry

Not long ago, people turned their noses up at the idea of living in a modular home. That is certainly no longer the case, as modular homes have taken the construction industry by storm. Not only have they become standardized and easier to retrofit, but they come in multiple floor units that are difficult to distinguish from a stick construction. Where once the manufacturers used materials created for machining or fast construction, now, thanks to industry innovations, the modular builds are constructed using the same tools, materials, and equipment used by conventional home builders.
Fasteners and Finishers
To increase construction efficiency in the modular home shop, manufacturers began designing fasteners and finishing materials that streamlined the building process. General contractors quickly adopted the new framing methods and fasteners that allowed for quicker construction. Additionally, glue and nail guns that were once used only by modular manufacturers are now widely used as a general framing technique.
Pre-Cut and Re-Do
Conventional home manufacturers have also taken note of the speed modular homes are built at. With the ability to pre-measure everything from drywall to plumbing parts, the construction process can proceed as if it were a crossword puzzle. Waste from inaccurate cuts or problem schedules is kept at a minimum. Not only does that save the company money, but more homes can be built in a few months than when using the old construction methods.
Gaps and Materials
It all began in a manufacturing plant that wanted to streamline construction time and techniques. Those innovations have spread from the modular home industry and have changed the world of construction with those groundbreaking designs in building materials and preconstruction parts. As the gap between general construction and modular builds continues to close, home buyers are noticing. Modular homes are beautiful house constructions, and most people can’t tell if the building is a stick build or modular.
